FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
POPULAR RADIO PERSONALITY TOM JOYNER TO LEAD
“MARCH TO VOTE” RALLY IN MIAMI ON OCT. 29
(Dallas, TX – October 21, 2004) - Tom Joyner, the top ranked nationally syndicated radio personality and entrepreneur, is organizing a major “March to Vote” rally in Miami on Oct. 29th, just four days before the closely watched general election on November 2.
In an effort to significantly increase the number of early voters, Joyner is calling on Miami-Dade residents to join him in casting their votes immediately following his Southwest Airlines Sky Show taking place that morning at the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami Beach.
“You know everybody has their eyes on Florida,” said Joyner, who was recognized by Newsday as one of the nation’s most influential political voices in the country. “And I want to make sure everybody whose registered comes out to vote… and that they come out to vote early.”
Numerous local and national GOTV efforts (Unity ’04, NAACP), major celebrities, and the Northwestern High School Marching Band will march voters from the theater to the neighboring Miami Beach City Hall, where there will be voting booths and election officials on site.
The “March to Vote” Rally comes just a week after Joyner held a major five-city effort to get voters, particularly African-American voters, to vote early in Las Vegas, Nev., Little Rock, Ark., Nashville, Tenn., Orlando, Fla., and Raleigh/Durham, NC.
Throughout the year, Joyner has been an active member in voter empowerment efforts with Unity ’04, a coalition of more than 160 organizations that has spent the past year registering new voters, educating the Black community on the power of one vote and motivating voters to cast their ballots on Election Day.
